A Brand Refresh for our 5th Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Data Literacy!
Five years ago, I left Tableau Software to start this company, calling it simply Data Literacy. The goal was simple but incredibly lofty: “to help people speak the language of data.”
As of today, we’ve trained tens of thousands of people in hundreds of organizations on every continent but Antarctica. In spite of that fact, we still feel that we have a long way to go.
In many ways, with the rapid rise of AI, the urgency to close the greatest education gap of our time has only increased since we launched.
Change is the Only Constant
So while our goal stays the same, our team has decided to make some changes as we wrap up our first 5 years and start our next 5 years. To start with, we’ve given our brand a nice refresh – new fonts, colors, background images, and a much cleaner logo that we really love. All of this “design love” comes courtesy of Alli Torban, our resident trainer, data designer, and soon-to-be published author!
Here’s a slide from the jamboard she made for us to help us finalize the new look-and-feel:
What Else Is Changing?
The upgrade to Data Literacy is much more than skin deep. The bones and muscles are being revitalized, too. In fact, later this week, we’ll be launching a total revamp of our most popular course, Data Literacy Fundamentals. We didn’t just replace the logo and fonts, we totally rebuilt the course from the ground up:
- Clearer learning objectives mapped to Bloom’s taxonomy
- Fewer, more concise lesson videos featuring not just me (Ben), but also Alli
- Fresh new diagrams that clearly explain the topics in each lesson
- Brand new quizzes and interactive in-lesson knowledge checks built by Megan Hanno
- COMING SOON: An “escape room” final challenge that is currently in development(!)
We’ll also be launching a subscription option so that you can access our entire library of courses. That way, as we continue growing our library of books and courses, you can grow along with us.
I’m not just talking about numbers and charts and analytics. I’m also talking about people skills for managers and leaders, and generative AI, and innovation. And much, much more to come.
Family-Owned and Grown
So we’ve come a long way since we launched in 2018. So have you. Data Literacy isn’t just a company, it’s an entire movement, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
We’re also proud of the fact that we’re family-owned and operated, with no external investors. Our funding comes from our satisfied customers: government agencies, non-profits, and companies in dozens of different industries, from retail to banking to biotechnology. We’ve been able to make it through a turbulent half-decade in the world because we’ve consistently found ways to delight our customers and enlighten our learners.
And that’s what we’ll keep doing. Who are “we?” Me, Becky, Megan, and Alli:
All of these changes I’ve just mentioned layer on top of other recent additions to our offerings, including our Data Literacy Solutions – BI consulting, creative visualization design, and leadership coaching and mentoring, as well as our keynote services that bring both information and inspiration to your company meeting or industry conference.
We want to meet you where you are, so we’ll continue expanding our offerings to help in more ways than one.
If you’d like to hear about all the new ways we can help you and your team, reach out to Becky and she’ll be happy to give you an overview. Or fill out this form, and we’ll get back to you right away. We’re looking forward to hearing how we can help you take your data fluency to a new level.
